What we do
Volunteers are constantly on the lookout for pollution incidents threatening the river quality and are in regular contact with the Environment Agency. The oil spillage pictured was in a goit along Marriners Walk, we liaised with both the Environment Agency and the riparian owners about this incident. If you see pollution or fly-tipping please let us know using the button below.

River Worth Friends is a group of volunteers working to improve the environment of the River Worth. We also aim to raise awareness of what a valuable natural asset the river is amongst the communities that live along side it.
We have regular events working on river conservation, these include frequent litter picks and river clearances. Litter and debris in the river is a constant problem in more urban areas. |
As well as monitoring the river conditions we are involved in research into both the ecology and heritage of the river from headwater to confluence. Understanding these factors can influence the direction of the work we do. Over the centuries the river course has been straightened and canalised for the sake of the traditional industries that drew their power from it, thus limiting the diversity of species living in and around it. We plan projects to improve diversity. If you have an interest or background in local history of nature conservation we would be keen to hear from you.
